TURN PRIVILEGE ON ITS HEAD: TOOLS FOR CHANGE. DESIRÉE BELA. NOVEMBER, 7. 10.00h – 15.00h.
Workshop
ARTIST: Desirée Bela
This in-person workshop invites you to rethink which experiences and discourses are heard and how stories are told in our everyday contexts. Through participatory activities, practical exercises, and collective reflection, you will learn to identify and transform dynamics of racism and exclusion in educational and cultural spaces.
Participants will be able to delve into Candice Breitz’s OFF VOICES exhibition through an active and experiential methodology, accompanied by Desirée Bela, offering a practical space to explore, identify, and transform racist dynamics in the social, educational, and cultural spheres. It stems from the need to rethink who is heard, how narratives are constructed, and what role systems of privilege and representation play in contemporary culture, in line with Breitz’s critical and social approach.

WORKSHOP ON BUILDING A DOORAG DECEMBER, 13. 16:00h – 20:00h.
Workshop
ARTIST: LCDD LOS CABALLOS DE DÜSSELDORF
The doorag is an electronic musical instrument based on a process called “circuit bending.” It involves altering the low-voltage electronic circuitry of a toy. It is easy to do and poses no risk of electrocution, as it works with 6 to 9 volts. However, the components involved are small, and the use of a soldering iron is essential. Workshop participants must be skilled in using tools. First, we will present several doorags and demonstrate how to use the soldering iron. Then we will disassemble the toys to understand how they work, empirically testing what kind of changes we could make. We will bring toys that are suitable for manipulation and transformation into musical instruments, as well as the appropriate electronic components.
