ARTIST: Francesc Ruiz
The City of Transport, the logistics park located on the outskirts of Castelló de la Plana, is the starting point from which Francesc Ruiz speculates on a possible model of a nomadic community offering refuge and sanctuary to those whose existence, for various reasons, challenges the status quo. It envisions a shared space where the means of production and distribution have been seized and used to generate and disseminate emergency architectures and potential spaces for rescue and survival.
Francesc Ruiz expands the printed space of capitalism and its imagined communities, proposing a possible escape from within, one not free from the fragility and vulnerability inherent in any world made of paper and plastic. The commercial correspondence that fills our mailboxes, the newspapers and magazines that inform us, and the vinyl and PVC iconosphere covering our cities have been hacked to contain information for embarking on journeys along uncharted paths.
The artist’s work unfolds through references such as comics, a transitional element uniting dissident sensibilities and communities; the informational architecture of newsstands, a place for reflecting on the construction of national and regional identities; large-format digital printing, a space for creating a new global landscape; and contemporary logistics as the choreography of capital.
